The Mojo was originally founded in 2011 as a trio by Imre Olivér Honfi (guitar, vocals), János Horváth (guitar, vocals), and Tamás Szabó (harmonicas, vocals). Their unique musical world emerged from the diverse tastes and backgrounds of the three musicians, blending elements of pop, country, beat, and traditional blues. Their signature sound is defined by frequent three-part vocal harmonies and enriched by rare instruments such as the diddley bow, cigar box guitar, harmonetta, and bass harmonica. The band is also known for pushing the dynamic boundaries of live music to the limit. Thanks to Olivér’s songwriting, their repertoire now consists almost entirely of original compositions, complemented by a few uniquely reinterpreted covers.
More than ten years ago, they expanded into a five-piece band, and in 2024, a new rhythm section joined the lineup. The band's sound gained further color as the tuba became the primary bass instrument with the arrival of internationally acclaimed musician János Mazura, while György Blaskó joined as a versatile drummer who has explored nearly every musical genre.
Since their formation, they have recorded 8 albums. In 2016, they launched a standalone project called 'Traveling Blues Nights' with the well-known European singer-guitarist Tim Lothar and Jesper Theis, with whom they have released three albums.
